Remarks
The M'Coul class Far Trader is a very good example of the restoration of high tech shipbuilding capability within the Republic. The M'Coul is a newer design, built exclusively by DKI and loosely based on the Empress Marava class traders from pre-war DKI manufacturing. Improved fusion power systems and jump drives enable the trader to achieve jump-3 in the advanced model, 2 in the standard system. Two hardpoints are standard with an optional install of lateral turrets. The two 25-ton cargo bays can be fitted for small air raft craft, with one full cargo and one split cargo/garage bay being the usual configuration. MCoul class weapons systems include particle accelerators in addition to the usual missile and laser options.
Service Use and Variations
M'Coul class traders
are most often employed by contract and Free Trade Association (FTA) members,
as the craft is not produced in sufficient quantity to be eligible for
Mercantile Guild purchase contract. There are no major variants to
the ship currently offered, although earlier proto units were sold at auction
to private parties who have reportedly customized the (partially outfitted)
ships to their taste. A noteable problem with the M'Coul class vessels
are the small accomodations in the standard design. Double staterooms
measuring 3x2.5M afford little room for much else besides sleeping, and
the small common areas are linked by passage through engineering, which
is at times inconvenient. (A minor variant to the design depopulates
2 staterooms to make accomodations a little more generous)
