The Fighter is the essential component of any large ship or fleet's defense system.  Fighters are small one or two man craft, capable of high-G acceleration and usually mounting a single energy weapon.  The fighter has no jump capability and must be tendered or birthed in a larger ship for interstellar travel.  DKI Space systems manufactures several lines of advanced fighters, featuring advanced fusion power plants and hull configurations capable of high speed atmospheric work even in dense atmospheres.  The 2000 series fighters are two-man craft, crewed by pilot/navigator and gunner.  (vs. 1000 series craft which are one man only)  The centrally mounted cockpit ejects from the craft as a life pod, which is not capable of atmospheric reentry.

The DKI 2000 series fighter is in wide use in the Star Service, and is usually sold only to military organizations on local worlds.  Occassionally, private concerns such as megacorps or the Mercantile Guild will be allowed to operate small squadrons of these fighter craft for private escort use on dangerous routes.  Variations to the DKI 2000 series craft usually amount to changes in the hardpoint weapn (ex, missile bay vs. laser, etc) or changes to the computer and targeting systems.
