Much of the Historical Record detailing the early years of DKI was lost during the war and Chaos Years that followed. It is believed that Dalton Kess arrived from a region of space known as the Black Sector, an large area of unnavigable space that exists on the trailing edge of Imperial Star Charts. Kess reportedly arrived alone in a small scout ship, and single-handedly built a thriving space systems company on Everin-4. Kess Systems provided new technology solutions in weapons, navigation, and defensive systems, and it quickly became a principal contractor to the Imperial Navy, as well as many terrestrial governments and private corporations. The ability for Kess Systems to deliver new breakthroughs in technology on a regular basis propelled it to MutiStellar status, and within thirty years it's operations had grown to span hundreds of worlds, employing millions.
Dalton Kess dissapeared in 3024, shortly before the Eristicon War, under mysterious circumstances. Dalton was reported to be old and dying at the time of his dissapearance; he was supposedly over 100 years of age. His whereabouts and ultimate fate have never been discovered. If he were still alive today, he would be close to 200 years old.
DKI, like every other corporation, was devastated by the effects of the Eristicon War. Much of the company's assets were lost or destroyed during Eristicon occupation, and the Chaos Years. DKI's biggest advantage was that it had a substantial facility on Terek, including an almost completely self-sufficient space technologies manufacturing division. Terek was spared much of the destruction from the initial Eristicon attack, thanks in part to a DKI orbital defense system put in place years earlier to protect the planet from attack during the Bastil War.
After the founding of the Terek Federation, DKI resumed terrestrial operations on Terek, manufacturing space vessels and components for private and government clients. In 3109, DKI resumed MultiStellar operations, reopening facilities on Vember, Burath, Pondii, and Ghourxa. Today, DKI operates over a hundred facilities on at least seven different worlds.
