The Roger Oak Society is the most prominent and visible of a number of organizations committed to high-tech development and advocacy.  Roger Oak members, or "Oakies" believe that the current governmental controls over tech are too restrictive, and that the Stanton Resolution should be repealed.  Despite similarities with the Church of the Machine in terms of their short-term goals, the Oakies and Commies do not get along.  The Oakies believe that the Church of the Machine is a fanatic organization that illegitimizes the cause of freeing the Republic from restricitve technology laws.  The Commies on the other hand support the activities of the Oakies, believing it to be beneficial to their cause.  Within their own ranks, however, COM members believe that the Oakies are not true believers, since they do not endorse contact with the Eristicon.

The Roger Oak Society is viewed by most in the Republic as a legitimate political organization, and many prominent citizens, including employees and managers of large and Mega corps are among the membership.  The total membership within the Byler Republic is estimated at about 15 Million.
